Dr. Jana Lipps is a Lecturer at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences at ETH Zürich, affiliated with the European Politics Group. Her research investigates the relationship between international governance and democratic representation, with particular focus on challenges from illiberal actors to liberal international institutions.
Lipps' work examines regional economic divides in the European Union and their impact on institutional trust, internal and external rebordering processes, and the participation patterns of parliamentarians in international institutions. Her ERC-funded EUROBORD project analyzes border dynamics in contemporary European politics.
Her publications frequently address the tension between liberal international orders and illiberal strategies, parliamentary diplomacy at transnational levels, and the political consequences of regional inequalities within the EU framework.
