Jana Krause is Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo, where she directs the MA program in Peace and Conflict Studies (PECOS). She holds an ERC Starting Grant for her project 'ResilienceBuilding: Social Resilience, Gendered Dynamics, and Local Peace in Protracted Conflicts' (2020-2026). Previously, she was Associate Professor at the University of Amsterdam and a NIAS fellow (2019/20).

Her research focuses on civilian agency in communal conflicts/civil wars, local peacebuilding, gender dynamics in peace processes, and social resilience in protracted conflicts. Fieldwork spans South Sudan, Kenya, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Nigeria.
Recent publications (2023-2015) explore topics like: civilian protection monitoring, gender dimensions of violence, ethnographic research ethics, and peace negotiation outcomes. These appear in Global Studies Quarterly, Journal of Peace Research, and edited volumes from Oxford University Press.
