Mara Revkin is an Associate Professor of Law at Duke University's School of Law and holds a secondary appointment as Associate Professor of Political Science in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. She joined Duke in 2022 from Georgetown University’s Center on National Security and the Law. Revkin specializes in armed conflict, peace-building, transitional justice, migration, policing, and property law, with a regional focus on the Middle East and Africa. She earned a J.D. (2016) and Ph.D. (2019) from Yale University.
Her research examines post-conflict governance, civilian protection, and the intersection of law and violence. Notable grants include a National Science Foundation award (2024–2027) on transitional justice legitimacy and a Folke Bernadotte Academy grant (2022–2025) analyzing civilian victimization in war. Revkin teaches courses such as Transitional Justice, Property Law, and International Criminal Justice, and co-leads applied sociology research projects.
Her publications explore topics like Islamic State governance, civilian harm in conflict, and police legitimacy in Iraq. Recent articles include No Peace Without Punishment? (2024) and Evidence-Based Transitional Justice (2024). Media highlights include discussions on civilian casualty accountability and post-conflict strategies in outlets like Foreign Affairs and Yale Law Journal.
