Prof. Dr. Jana Eberlein serves as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Harz University of Applied Sciences, where she also holds membership in the Academic Senate and previously chaired the Budget and Structure Commission until June 2020. Her academic home is the Department of Economics within the Faculty of Economics, and she maintains active membership in the International Controller Association.
Her research spans critical areas including budgeting and variance analysis, performance measurement systems, process costing, and service controlling, with growing emphasis on sustainability accounting and digital transformation. Current projects investigate the intersection of controlling, internal control, and compliance frameworks, alongside sustainability controlling implementations in corporate environments. She examines how digital tools reshape traditional accounting practices through SAP integration and real-time analytics.
Recent publications (2020-2023) reveal three dominant trends: the digitalization of controlling processes through visualized reporting and ERP systems, the integration of sustainability metrics into core accounting functions, and the evolving strategic role of controllers in risk management. Her work consistently bridges theoretical frameworks with practical SAP implementations, particularly in activity-based costing and process-oriented contribution margin accounting.
Prof. Eberlein supervises bachelor's and master's theses through structured guidelines for academic papers and established the "Career Orientation: Management Accounting" program for bachelor students. She founded the "Controlling Network of the Harz University of Applied Sciences" on XING to facilitate professional networking among graduates and practitioners in controlling fields.
