Jan Peter Dutz

Jan Peter Dutz is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia, and Head of the Department of Dermatology & Skin Science. He is affiliated with the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute and BC Diabetes Research Network, focusing on immunology and skin-related autoimmune diseases.

Research Interests: Dr. Dutz's work centers on optimizing the skin as an organ for immune modulation, particularly in

• Type 1 diabetes mellitus
• Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
• Epicutaneous immunization

His team investigates cross-presentation of beta cell antigens, UV light's role in lupus, and non-invasive vaccine delivery methods.

Scientific Awards:

• Martin M Hoffman Award for Excellence in Research, UBC Department of Medicine (2001)

Grants: Recipient of the CIHR Operating Grant (2013-2017) for projects titled "Using the skin to control inflammation."
