Jan Nåls is a Senior Lecturer in Film and Media at Arcada University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland. His research focuses on storytelling, narrative empathy, and intercultural communication across media platforms. He holds a PhD from the University of Helsinki (2019), where his dissertation explored empathy in intercultural film narratives. Nåls is also an active scriptwriter, author, and theatre practitioner, specializing in themes of displacement, identity, and power. He previously coordinated the North South South exchange program (2006–2016), fostering intercultural collaboration between African and Finnish institutions.
