Jan Mieszkowski is Reginald F. Arragon Professor of German and Humanities at Reed College, specializing in 18th-19th century literature, critical theory, and sentence poetics. His research spans continental philosophy, aesthetic theory, and media representations of conflict.
Publications include 'Crises of the Sentence' examining syntactic structures in literature/philosophy, 'Watching War' analyzing war spectatorship, and 'Labors of Imagination' exploring political economy-aesthetics connections. Recognized with NEH and Mellon fellowships, he serves on the editorial board of Postmodern Culture.
Current research investigates botanical poetics while teaching courses in poetry, literary analysis, and European philosophy. Leadership includes co-founding the Rutgers-Reed Philological Seminar promoting interdisciplinary linguistic studies.
