Jan-Mathieu Carbon

Jan-Mathieu Carbon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics & Archaeology at Queen's University. He specializes in ancient Greek and Near Eastern cultural interactions, ethnicity/indigeneity studies, slavery, religion, and epigraphy. His research integrates digital humanities approaches to enhance decipherment and text analysis.

Education: D.Phil. (Oxford), M.A. (McMaster), B.A. (Queen's). He collaborates on projects like the Danish Halikarnassos Project and co-leads the Collection of Greek Ritual Norms (CGRN). Editor of Kernos and Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum.

Recent work includes studies on sacrificial practices, purity rituals, and Hellenistic honorific decrees. His publications span ancient Near Eastern history, Carian archaeology, and Greek religious institutions. Ongoing projects involve inscriptions from Halikarnassos and Dodona's oracular tablets.
