Jan Høiberg is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Communication, University of South-East Norway. He holds leadership roles including former Dean (1999-2013) and Head of Research (2015-) in the Faculty of Computer Science. His academic career spans over three decades, beginning with a M.Sc. from University of Oslo (1985), followed by roles as a researcher at Veritec AS, Norwegian Computing Center, and Stavanger University/Rogaland Research/University of Texas. He has taught courses such as Algorithms and Datastructures, Operating Systems with Linux, and Supervised Master Theses.
His research interests encompass numerical analysis, machine learning, high-performance computing, and popular music history. He has contributed to interdisciplinary projects like The Band Web Site Tags: The Digital Society and authored works on ICT education policies. He serves on multiple national and local councils, including the Norwegian Council for Computer Science and the Board of Directors for Inkubator Halden AS.
His publications span topics from reservoir engineering (e.g., permeability modeling) to educational reform in IT. Notable works include Algoritmer og datastrukturer (2013) and The Band: a musical history (2007). He has been actively involved in shaping IT education strategies and promoting technology sustainability.
