Jan-Hendrik Hehemann

Jan-Hendrik Hehemann is a Professor at the Marine Glycobiology department within MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University of Bremen. His research focuses on microbial utilization of carbohydrates, environmental glycobiology, and molecular mechanisms of marine carbon cycling. He leads the MPG Bridge Group Marine Glycobiology in collaboration with MARUM, developing tools to study algal polysaccharides' role in oceanic carbon storage.

His work spans microbial adaptation, pathway evolution, and molecular structure analysis. Current projects emphasize understanding how marine microbes interact with carbon compounds and contribute to biogeochemical cycles.
