Jana Maßing

Jana Maßing is a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany, affiliated with the MARUM MPG Bridge Group Marine Glycobiology. This collaborative research group operates between the Max Planck Institute and MARUM (Center for Marine Environmental Sciences) at the University of Bremen.

Her research focuses on marine glycobiology, particularly studying algal polysaccharides (complex sugars) and their critical role in ocean carbon storage processes. This work contributes to understanding how marine microorganisms influence global carbon cycles and climate regulation.

The MARUM MPG Bridge Group, led by Dr. Jan-Hendrik Hehemann, investigates how these algal sugars massively influence carbon sequestration in the ocean. Their research has implications for climate science and understanding marine ecosystem functioning.
