Jan Hansel is an NIHR Doctoral Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine at The University of Manchester and holds an honorary contract at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. His research focuses on precision methods in sepsis antimicrobial therapy, airway management, and pharmacokinetics of beta-lactam antibiotics in critical care. He graduated from The University of Maribor (2015) and completed a Master of Research at The University of Manchester (2023).
Research Contributions: He leads multicenter studies such as the TDM-TIME Study (therapeutic drug monitoring timing) and the upcoming SIPRES Study (NIHR-funded). He authored a Cochrane review on tracheal intubation devices, influencing clinical guidelines. His work addresses core outcome sets for airway management and diagnostic criteria for pneumonia.
Professional Roles: Member of the Airway Terminology and Outcome Measures steering committee, peer reviewer for CHEST, BJA, and Trends in Anaesthesia and Critical Care, and active in the Trainee Research in Intensive Care (TRIC) network.
Awards: New Investigator Award (Intensive Care Society, 2024 Turnberg Cup), NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship (2021).
