Dr. Jan Guy is a Senior Lecturer in Visual Arts at the Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney, with academic credentials including an MVA from the University of Sydney, GradDipVisArts from Sydney College of the Arts, and DipArt from Queensland College of Art. Her research explores the intersection of haptic senses and virtual spaces, new feminisms, and craft theory, with a focus on contemporary ceramics as sculptural and installed works.
Her publications and exhibitions demonstrate a consistent engagement with materiality and emotional expression, particularly through ceramic media. Recent works explore mixed realities, corporeal experiences, and feminist perspectives, with international exhibitions in Taiwan, Japan, Finland, and Hong Kong.
Significant awards include the National Craft Acquisition Award (1989), Yingge Ceramics Museum Artist-in-Residence Award (2016), and Honourable Mention at the 11th Mino International Ceramics Triennale (2017). She also contributes to academic discourse through critical writing on contemporary artists.
Dr. Guy currently advises one PhD candidate researching contemporary material art and Chinese lesbian feminism. Her laboratory work integrates traditional ceramic techniques with emerging technologies, exploring sensory experiences in art creation.
