Jan Donahou is an Adjunct Professor and Instructor at the School of Information Studies (SOIS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). She holds a BA in English from Arkansas Tech University and an MLIS with School Library Media Certification from UWM. Prior to her current role, she served as a school librarian in Wisconsin for 14 years and later became the academic librarian at UWM at Washington County (2019–present). Her research focuses on diversity in children’s publishing and integrating graphic novels into educational settings.

Donahou is an active member of professional organizations, including the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) within the American Library Association (ALA) and the Wisconsin Library Association (WLA). She frequently presents at the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA) annual meetings and currently serves on the 2030 Libraries Work Group, envisioning the future of university libraries. She emphasizes libraries as communal resources, fostering comfort and curiosity among users.
Her teaching includes courses like INFOST 645: Library Materials for Children. She advocates for libraries as vital spaces for societal good and is committed to equitable access to educational resources.
