Jan-Berend Stuut

Prof. Jan-Berend Stuut holds the Chair in Aeolian Sedimentology Research at the Faculty of Science, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His work focuses on aeolian dust dynamics, studying both its depositional aspects for paleoenvironmental reconstruction and its marine environmental impacts, particularly regarding climate change mitigation through dust fertilization. He contributes to teaching 'Sedimentary Dynamics' (BSc) and 'Marine Geology and Palaeoclimatology' (MSc). Ancillary roles include serving as Bestuurder at Stichting Zoete Toekomst Texel since 2021.

Research interests span Saharan dust transport, sediment traps, marine nutrient cycles, and paleoclimatic reconstructions. Notable projects include investigating dust-driven biogenic material export in the Mediterranean and developing proxies like coccolith-calcite Sr/Ca for dust deposition studies.
