Prof. Dr. Jan Assmann is the Hans Blumenberg Visiting Professor at the University of Münster’s Cluster of Excellence 'Religion and Politics'. He holds an honorary professorship in religion theory and cultural studies at the University of Constance, and is an emeritus professor of Egyptology at Heidelberg University. His research focuses on cultural memory, religion-politics relationships, and the historical development of religious systems from ancient Egypt to modernity. He has conducted visiting professorships at Yale, Jerusalem, Houston, Paris, Oxford, and Chicago. His work includes analyzing how digitalization impacts cultural memory frameworks and explores the interplay between nationalism, religion, and state authority in authoritarian regimes.
