Prof. Jan Albert Kuivenhoven is an Associate Professor and Principal Investigator at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Medical Sciences, Department of Pediatrics, Molecular Genetics. His research focuses on lipoprotein metabolism, atherosclerosis, and hepatic steatosis, with particular emphasis on genetic and metabolic factors influencing cardiovascular health.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam (1996), specializing in genetic factors contributing to HDL cholesterol levels. His professional experience includes roles at the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam, and the University Medical Center Groningen, combining clinical and experimental vascular medicine expertise.
Key research areas include HDL dysfunction, VLDL secretion pathways, and lipid transport mechanisms. He has led projects like the EU-funded 'RESOLVE' and 'Transcard' initiatives, investigating metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease biomarkers.
