Jamol J. Pender is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of Graduate Studies in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University. He holds affiliations with Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Operations Research and Information Engineering, and Systems Engineering graduate fields.
Education: B.S.E. and M.S.E. in Electrical and Systems Engineering from University of Pennsylvania (2007-2008), followed by a Ph.D. in Operations Research and Financial Engineering from Princeton University (2013). Previously served as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University's Industrial Engineering and Operations Research Department.
Research focuses on queueing theory, applied probability, Markov processes, control theory, and mathematical finance with applications to health systems, transportation, financial engineering, and machine learning. His work bridges theoretical developments with real-world systems analysis.
Notable awards include the Ford Foundation Fellowship (2014), INFORMS Telecommunications Best Paper Honorable Mention (2016), and Patrice Y. Johnson Award (2013). His recent research explores strategies to reduce virus spread via queuing models in retail environments.
Advising involves mentoring students through Cornell's ORIE program. Active in advancing interdisciplinary research at the intersection of operations research and emerging technologies.
