Jamie Stang is a Professor in the Division of Epidemiology & Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. With a PhD in Nutrition from the University of Minnesota, MPH in Public Health Nutrition from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and BS in Community Dietetics from the University of North Dakota, Dr. Stang has established herself as a leading researcher in maternal and child health nutrition.
Dr. Stang's research focuses on the role of nutrition in preventing poor maternal-fetal outcomes and childhood obesity risk factors, utilizing a positive deviance framework with emphasis on social determinants of health. Her work specifically targets marginalized, underserved, and rural maternal and child health populations. She is also deeply involved in Public Health Nutrition and Maternal and Child Health workforce development.
Her expertise spans food and nutrition, maternal and child health, women's health, gestational diabetes, maternal weight gain, and pre-pregnancy obesity. Dr. Stang's recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate her continued active research in maternal psychological distress and breastfeeding outcomes, omega-3 supplementation during pregnancy, protein intake effects on health conditions, and adolescent nutrition interventions.
Dr. Stang has been involved in numerous systematic reviews and clinical trials, often collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across various health domains including maternal health, child development, and public health nutrition.
