Dr. Jamie Skidmore is a Full Professor and Coordinator of the Diploma in Stage and Screen Technique at Memorial University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD (University of Toronto), MA (University of Toronto), and BA (Queen’s University), along with a postdoctoral fellowship in Indo-Canadian Research from Pondicherry University.
His research focuses on Newfoundland Theatre, puppetry, and performance design, with recent projects including Melody and the Fishes and Frankenpuppet. He has directed over 50 theatrical productions across Newfoundland and internationally, emphasizing innovative set and lighting design.
Skidmore's creative work spans film, theatre, and festivals, including the Isle aux Morts Theatre Festival as Artistic Director and co-founding the St. John’s Shorts Festival. He has received multiple awards for lighting design, direction, and screenwriting, including the Harvey Rose Bowl and Allan Power Memorial Trophy.
He regularly teaches courses on film, Canadian drama, and physical stage production, blending academic theory with practical performance training. Current research explores Newfoundland's theatre festivals and global circus traditions.
