Jamie Pietruska is an Associate Professor of History at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, specializing in 19th- and 20th-century U.S. cultural history, science and technology. She earned her Ph.D. from MIT and an A.B. from Brown University. As a member of the Rutgers Critical AI initiative and a 2025 fellow in the Futures of Capitalism program at The New Institute in Hamburg, her work bridges historical and contemporary issues in predictive knowledge systems.
Research Interests: Her scholarship focuses on forecasting, data practices, and risk/catastrophe in U.S. economic life. Her first book, Looking Forward: Prediction and Uncertainty in Modern America (2017), examines the cultural history of prediction, while her current projects—Weather Capitalism and Data Driven—explore financialization of weather and historical data systems.
