Dr. Jamie Picardy is an Associate Professor in the Food Studies and Honors Programs at the University of Southern Maine, serving as Associate Director of Honors and Faculty Coordinator of Shaw Innovation Fellows. She holds a PhD from Tufts University (2015), an MS in Geography (Michigan State University, 2001), and a BS in Biosystems Agricultural Engineering (Michigan State University, 1998).

Her research focuses on regional seafood/meat value chains, food waste recovery, food security, racial equity, and economic development of food businesses. She integrates community-engaged research into courses, emphasizing applied solutions. Dr. Picardy co-led Food Solutions New England’s 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge and received the Donald Harward Faculty Award for Service-Learning Excellence, recognizing her work linking curriculum to public service and community partnership.
She advises the Shaw Innovation Fellows program and teaches Honors courses (HON 200/201, HON 310). Her collaborations span food systems policy, equity, and sustainability, addressing both environmental and social justice dimensions.
