Jamie O. Lo, M.D., M.C.R. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Department of Urology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), a Core Scientist at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC), and adjunct faculty in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia. Her work integrates clinical obstetrics, reproductive research, and translational toxicology.
Her educational background includes:
- B.A. in Molecular Cell Biology from University of California, Berkeley (2004)
- M.D. from Oregon Health & Science University (2008)
- M.C.R. from Oregon Health & Science University (2015)
- Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Utah (2012)
- Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at OHSU (2015)
Dr. Lo's research centers on environmental impacts—particularly substance use including cannabis, alcohol, and methamphetamine—on reproductive health and fetal development. She investigates placental function, amniotic fluid dynamics, iron deficiency in pregnancy, and transgenerational effects of paternal substance exposure using clinical cohorts and nonhuman primate models. Her work bridges reproductive toxicology, obstetrics, and developmental biology to understand mechanisms of exposure-related complications.
Analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals dominant themes in prenatal cannabinoid exposure (THC/methamphetamine), placental health, and iron metabolism. Her research consistently employs rhesus macaque models to isolate biological mechanisms, with strong emphasis on translational applications for neonatal outcomes. Key trends include dose-response relationships in substance exposure, sex-specific developmental effects, and multi-organ impacts on pulmonary, cardiac, and neurological systems.
Dr. Lo's research is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), March of Dimes, and Silver Family Foundation. She serves as Co-Director of PMedIC (Pacific Northwest Biomedical Innovation Co-Laboratory), a collaboration between OHSU and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and as Recruitment Director for OHSU's NIH/NICHD Women's Reproductive Health Research K12 Program. She mentors residents through her role as Assistant OB/Gyn Residency Program Director for Research and Scholarship.
As a Core Scientist at ONPRC, she leads a multidisciplinary team studying reproductive toxicology with advanced primate models. Her leadership extends to the Society for Reproductive Investigation (Grants Committee Chair) and Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (Publications Committee), where she shapes national clinical guidelines and research priorities.
