Dr. Jamie Lee Andreson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities at Simmons University. A historian of Latin America and the African Diaspora, her research examines gender, sexuality, and religion in Brazil through interdisciplinary lenses combining historical and ethnographic methods.
- PhD in Anthropology and History, University of Michigan
- MA in Ethnic and African Studies, Federal University of Bahia (UFBA)
Her work emphasizes public scholarship, digital humanities, and translation. She curated the archival exhibit In the City of Women: Ruth Landes’ Photo Collection of Brazilian Candomblé, 1938–1939 at Queens College. Her book Ruth Landes e a Cidade das Mulheres (Editora UFBA, 2019) reinterprets Candomblé anthropology.
Current research includes the book manuscript Divine Femininities: Matriarchy and African Heritage in Brazil, analyzing Afro-Brazilian religious leadership and state policies on African heritage. Her teaching includes Latin American history and graduate courses in feminist methodologies.
