Jamie Gorzynski is a Research Fellow at the Laboratory for Bacterial Evolution and Pathogenesis (LBEP) within the Division of Bacteriology at the University of Edinburgh's Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. He transitioned to this role after completing his PhD in 2023, having originally joined the LBEP group as a doctoral student in September 2018.
His educational trajectory includes:
- BSc in Microbiology, University of Aberdeen
- MSc in Evolutionary Genetics, University of Edinburgh (Kings Buildings campus)
- PhD, University of Edinburgh (2023)
Research interests center on microbial pathogen evolution, utilizing computational genomics and phylogenetics to analyze Legionella species evolution and strain-specific infection outcomes. His work bridges evolutionary biology with clinical pathogenesis, examining how genetic variations influence disease manifestation. The LBEP group provides a specialized environment for studying bacterial adaptation mechanisms through advanced genomic methodologies.
As part of the Laboratory for Bacterial Evolution and Pathogenesis, Gorzynski contributes to research investigating evolutionary drivers of bacterial virulence. The lab employs interdisciplinary approaches combining bioinformatics, experimental evolution, and molecular analysis to address fundamental questions in pathogen evolution.
