Jamie Gomez is a Senior Lecturer III in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of New Mexico, where she has been faculty since 2013. She earned her Ph.D. and B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from Florida A&M University (FAMU-FSU College of Engineering) and previously served as Lecturer III at UNM.
- Education: Ph.D. (2013) and B.Sc. (2009) in Chemical Engineering, FAMU-FSU College of Engineering
Her research focuses on Engineering Education, particularly design-based learning, diversity in student teams, and techno-economic modeling of renewable energy systems. She investigates strategies like asset-based design challenges, parleys for expert thinking, and self-aware teams to enhance learning outcomes.
Recent publications highlight her work in sustainable energy systems (green ammonia, SAF), curriculum innovation (digital badges, educative design problems), and sociotechnical frameworks for equity. She emphasizes non-deterministic challenges to foster creativity.
- Scientific Awards: Joseph J. Martin Award (2022), Corcoran Award (2020), Christine Stanley Award (2018), ASEE Poster Award (2017), NSF Research Assistantship (2009-2013)
- Grants: NSF RED/PFE grant #1623105 ($1.99M), NSF PFE grant #1544233 ($149K)
Gomez actively mentors students through design challenges and contributes to program-wide curricular reforms, blending technical rigor with professional skill development.
