
Jamie Capuzza

Jamie Capuzza is a Visiting Professor of Rhetoric, American Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies at The University of the South. With a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, she has held leadership roles at the University of Mount Union, including Department Chair of Communication and Director of the Honors and Gender Studies Programs. Her international experience includes visiting professorships at institutions across six countries.

Dr. Capuzza’s research focuses on social movement rhetoric, LGBTQIA+ studies, and transnational/intersectional feminisms. Her work bridges activism with academic inquiry, emphasizing coalition-building and diverse communication strategies. Her publications, including the award-winning book The Fifth Star: Ohio’s Fight for Women's Right to Vote, highlight marginalized voices in historical and contemporary movements.
Her research articles, spanning 2016–2021, explore transgender representation in media, pedagogy, and television, alongside feminist and protest rhetoric. These works reflect interdisciplinary engagement with communication ethics, media criticism, and queer theory.

Dr. Capuzza teaches courses such as Public Speaking, Intercultural Communication, and LGBTQ+ Rights Politics. She serves on the editorial board of Women & Language and advocates for inclusive communication practices globally.
