Jamie Baker is a Professor of Sound Design at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since 2019. Previously, they served as a Visiting Instructor at Pratt Institute (2017–19) and held roles at the Recording Institute of Detroit and University of Michigan. Their expertise spans sound design for film/TV, animation audio, and Foley techniques. They hold a B.G.S. in General Studies from the University of Michigan.
Research interests include post-production sound, audio for digital media, and innovative approaches to live performance sound design. Baker has contributed to notable projects like the 'Foley Footsteps Digital Library' and 'Women in Sound Documentary' as part of M.F.A. Thesis Committees.
Award-winning work includes a 2016 PromaxBDA Gold Award and Academy Award recognition for 'Life of Pi' (2013) and 'Hugo' (2012). Active in industry organizations, Baker advises the AES SCAD Student Section, mentors via PASO, and organizes events like the SCAD Foley Artist Webinar.
Teaching focuses on courses such as Foley Performance Techniques, Sound for Film/TV, and Dialogue Editing. They have developed curricula for Animation majors and emphasized Alexander Technique applications in vocal training.
