Yearsley specializes in mathematical psychology, focusing on computational models of non-normative decision making. His work explores how quantum theory mathematics can explain decision-making errors and biases, and he employs Bayesian methods for model fitting and comparison. His research spans perceptual decisions to complex ethical choices, aiming to predict and mitigate errors in human reasoning.
His recent collaborations extend cognitive modeling techniques to clinical and social psychology. He teaches quantitative methods and cognitive approaches to mind and behavior at the undergraduate level, with a focus on supporting students in research methods modules.
