James Wood serves as the Ivory-Boyer Senior Fellow at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute within the Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. With over 120 publications on Utah's economy, his research centers on housing markets, community development, and regional economic analysis.
His educational background includes a B.S. in Finance from the University of Utah and four years of graduate study in Economics. Wood's research portfolio spans housing economics, real estate dynamics, and public policy evaluation, with significant contributions to understanding sustainable communities and economic development frameworks.
Wood has led major research initiatives including a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development sustainable communities grant and a two-year cost-benefit analysis of Utah's Housing First Program. His work demonstrates consistent focus on practical economic applications for regional policy development.
Professional service includes membership on the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors, Salt Lake Home Builders Association board, Salt Lake County Housing Trust Fund, NeighborWorks Salt Lake, and the State of Utah Revenue Assumptions Working Group. For fifteen years, he directed the Bureau of Economic and Business Research contract with the State of Utah, producing thirteen industry-specific economic studies.
