Associate Professor James Tardio is Deputy Head of Department ACES (Learning and Teaching) at RMIT University's School of Science. His research focuses on resources engineering, extractive metallurgy, and materials science, with a particular emphasis on sustainable resource recovery from e-waste and industrial waste. He has supervised over 20 research projects addressing challenges in hydrometallurgy, catalysis, and environmental remediation.
Research interests include phase equilibria in metallurgical slags, phosphate adsorption using mesoporous materials, and catalytic conversion of bio-based chemicals. Recent work includes optimizing lithium battery material recovery from laterite ores and developing novel catalysts for biofuel upgrading.
