Dr. James Skillen is a Professor and Director of the Calvin Ecosystem Preserve & Native Gardens at Calvin University, where he holds a joint appointment in the Department of Geology, Geography, and Environment. His academic career includes roles such as Postdoctoral Fellow at Valparaiso University (2006–2008) and Professor of Environmental Studies at The Oregon Extension (2013–2015).
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Wheaton College
- Master of Arts in Theology, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
- Doctor of Philosophy in Natural Resource Policy, Cornell University
Research Interests: Focuses on federal land and resource policy, particularly in the American West. Integrates environmental science with theological perspectives to address conservation challenges. Active in community outreach through initiatives like the Calvin Ecosystem Preserve.
