James Sellers is a Senior Investigator at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), heading the Laboratory of Molecular Physiology under the NHLBI. He also serves as Dean of the NIH-Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program since 2012.

Dr. Sellers' research explores the structure, function, and regulation of myosins, which are motor proteins critical for cellular movement and cargo transport. His work spans diverse systems from single molecules to Drosophila, with a focus on unconventional myosins and their molecular differences. His lab pioneered optical trapping and super-resolution techniques to measure single-molecule movements at nanometer resolution, revealing key insights like the tight mechanochemical coupling in myosin Va (published in Nature, 2008).
His publications and interdisciplinary approach highlight innovations in electron microscopy, molecular kinetics, and cellular localization studies. These contributions intersect with biomedical engineering, biophysics, and structural biology.
