James Selig

James Selig, Ph.D., is a Professor at the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He holds a Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology from the University of Kansas (2009), an M.A. in Applied Psychology from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (2002), and a B.A. in Psychology & Philosophy (1995). His work focuses on biostatistics, epidemiology, and public health disparities, with an emphasis on diabetes prevention, vaccine hesitancy, and adverse childhood experiences. He teaches courses such as Categorical Data Analysis and Biostatistics Computing with SAS.

Dr. Selig’s research addresses health disparities among marginalized populations, including Marshallese Pacific Islanders and rural communities. Recent studies explore sociodemographic factors in healthcare access, pandemic impacts on physical activity, and the role of provider recommendations in vaccine uptake. His methodologies often involve latent class analysis and multilevel modeling.

Key projects include a multilevel diabetes prevention program in faith-based organizations and studies on pediatric HPV vaccination hesitancy. He collaborates with community partners to address food insecurity, maternal health, and chronic disease management. His work frequently highlights the intersection of health behavior, systemic inequities, and intervention design.
