Dr. James Richie is an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Marquette University's Opus College of Engineering. With a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, his research focuses on electromagnetic scattering, antenna systems, and numerical techniques in electromagnetics. He develops computational methods for antenna optimization and studies wave propagation in complex media.
His recent publications demonstrate applied research in biomedical sensing and antenna design, with innovations in photothermal measurement techniques and multithreaded optimization algorithms. Current projects include NSF-funded water contaminant detection systems using plasmonic effects.
- 6-time recipient of Eta Kappa Nu Teaching Excellence Award
- Opus College Outstanding Teacher (2020)
- Wilson High School Distinguished Alumnus
Dr. Richie has supervised 30+ graduate students and developed courses including Antenna Theory, Wireless Communications, and Electromagnetic Fields. He serves as ECE Department Associate Chair and has secured NSF grants for water quality monitoring technology. His laboratory work includes collaborations on microthermomechanical detection systems and bowtie antenna optimization.
