James O'Donnell

James O'Donnell is a Professor of Vascular Biology and Director of the Irish Centre for Vascular Biology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). He holds clinical appointments as a Consultant Haematologist at St. James's Hospital, Dublin. His academic career includes a PhD from Imperial College London (2001) and clinical training at leading institutions in Australia and the UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Royal College of Pathologists (UK).

His research focuses on vascular biology, thrombosis, and haemostasis, with emphasis on von Willebrand factor, bleeding disorders, and cardiovascular disease mechanisms. Key achievements include pioneering studies on von Willebrand disease pathogenesis and translational research in haemophilia therapy.
