Dr. James Murray is a Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), affiliated with the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation within the Faculty of Health. He previously held roles as Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor in the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology Program at the University of South Australia (2021-2024). His clinical expertise includes working with populations facing cardiovascular diseases and cancer, particularly focusing on low socioeconomic groups and cancer survivors.
Dr. Murray completed his PhD at the University of South Australia (2020-2023), investigating exercise's cardioprotective effects in women with cancer and cardiovascular risks. His research emphasizes exercise interventions during chemotherapy, prehabilitation strategies, and enhancing physical activity adoption in vulnerable groups. He has published over 11 peer-reviewed articles (75+ citations) and presented internationally.
His teaching spans the Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology program at UTS, where he designs curricula and delivers lectures on exercise oncology, cardiorespiratory disease management, research methodology, and societal issues in exercise physiology. He supervises honours students (1 completed, 2 ongoing) and mentors clinical practicums, focusing on skill development in assessment, exercise prescription, and clinical reasoning.
Dr. Murray is a member of UTS's Human Performance Research Centre (HPRC), contributing to interdisciplinary research on exercise's role in health preservation and disease management.
