James Mulrooney

Dr. James Mulrooney serves as Professor of Biomolecular Science at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), where he has held faculty positions since 2001. He currently holds the administrative role of Interim Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs (appointed August 2023), working directly with the Provost on student success initiatives. Previously, he served as interim dean of the School of Education (June 2021 onward) and held multiple interim leadership positions including interim dean and associate dean in the School of Engineering, Science, and Technology over seven of the last ten years.

His educational credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology from Wesleyan University (2000) and a Master of Arts (MA) in Biology from Central Connecticut State University (1995).

Dr. Mulrooney's research focuses on core areas of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Developmental Biology, grounded in his Biomolecular Science expertise and advanced biological training. His scholarly work intersects with stem cell research through his committee service.

He maintains active university governance roles as a former Faculty Senate president and vice president, while serving on the Enrollment Management Council and Student Success Team. His committee work encompasses academic standards, curriculum development, promotion and tenure processes, and CCSU Foundation/external grant oversight. Notably, he is a founding member of the UConn Stem Cell Research Oversight Committee where he continues active service.
