James Meadowcroft is a Professor at Carleton University, holding dual roles in the Department of Political Science and the School of Public Policy and Administration. He completed a 14-year tenure as a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Governance for Sustainable Development. His research focuses on environmental politics, sustainable development, energy transitions, and socio-technical systems. Meadowcroft has been funded by SSHRC, NSERC, and other organizations, and leads initiatives like the Transition Accelerator and Efficiency Canada.
Education: B.A. from McGill University and D.Phil from the University of Oxford. His work emphasizes low-carbon transitions, climate policy, and democratic participation. He has authored numerous books and articles, including publications on carbon capture and storage (CCS), smart grids, and Ontario’s electricity system. Meadowcroft also serves as an editorial board member for journals like the International Political Science Review.
Key achievements include an honorary doctorate from the University of Tampere (2010) for contributions to environmental policy and sustainable development. His recent projects address Canada’s net-zero transition through collaborative stakeholder engagement and policy innovation.
