James McClellan is a Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned his B.S. from Louisiana State University (1969) and M.S./Ph.D. from Rice University (1972/1973). Prior roles include research at MIT Lincoln Laboratory (1973-74), faculty at MIT (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department), and industry work at Schlumberger Well Services (1982-1987) before joining Georgia Tech in 1987.

Prof. McClellan co-authored influential books such as Number Theory in Digital Signal Processing, Computer-Based Exercises for Signal Processing, and DSP First: A Multimedia Approach. His academic contributions have been recognized through IEEE Fellow status and awards from the ASSP Technical Achievement (1987) and Signal Processing Society (1996).
