Anthony Yezzi is the Julian T. Hightower Chair and Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (College of Engineering). He directs the Lab of Computational Computer Vision (TSRB 427) and joined Georgia Tech in 1999. His research focuses on variational methods in computer vision and medical imaging, with applications in segmentation, 3D reconstruction, and AI-driven diagnostics.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, University of Minnesota (minors in Mathematics and Music)
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, University of Minnesota
- Postdoctoral Research Associate, Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems, MIT
Research Focus: Dr. Yezzi develops geometric PDEs and active contour models for problems in medical imaging (cardiac MRI/CT, ultrasound) and computer vision. Key areas include:
- Shape optimization and surface evolution theory
- AI for medical image segmentation and reconstruction
- Radar-based scene analysis and event-based vision
- Robust neural network training via PDE frameworks
Publication Trends: His recent work (2022-2025) emphasizes deep learning integration with variational methods, particularly for medical applications (pathology, radiology, dentistry) and 3D vision. Themes include stabilization of neural representations, PDE-based optimization, and AI-driven clinical tools.
Professional Activities: Consults on industrial applications in medical imaging and visual inspection. Teaches DSP and develops courses in computer vision/medical image processing.
