James Marquardt is a Professor of Politics and International Relations at Lake Forest College, serving as Chair of both the Politics and International Relations departments. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Chicago, an MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago, and a BA in Political Science from Villanova University.
His research focuses on American foreign policy, international security, and transparency in global governance. Notable works include Transparency and American Primacy in World Politics (2011) and edited volumes on U.S. foreign policy and Cold War strategy. He has presented widely at conferences like the Midwest Political Science Association and International Studies Association, addressing topics such as Sino-American transparency conflicts and the legacy of the Open Skies Treaty.
Marquardt has received numerous awards, including the Digital Chicago Fellowship and multiple research sabbaticals. His teaching spans courses like American Foreign Policy, International Organizations, and the theories of international relations.
