James Malley Jr is a Professor and Study Abroad Coordinator in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Hampshire's College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Environmental and Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst and Rutgers University.
His research focuses on physical-chemical and biological treatment processes for water, hazardous wastes, biohazards, and industrial/municipal wastewaters. Notable work includes UV-based virus inactivation during the Covid-19 pandemic and addressing PFAS contaminants in drinking water, soils, and sediments. He integrates fundamental principles into practical engineering models for treatment system design.
Teaches courses including Environmental Engineering Gateway, One Water Engineering, and Solid/Hazardous Waste Management. Publications include a 2011 study comparing advanced pre-treatment techniques for surface water.
