Dr. Christopher Bellona is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. His research focuses on advanced water and wastewater treatment technologies, including membrane systems, advanced oxidation processes, and water reuse strategies. He specializes in removing persistent contaminants like PFAS and optimizing membrane performance for potable reuse.
Education: PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering (2007), MS (2003), and BS (2000) from Colorado School of Mines and Western Washington University. His teaching includes courses on aquatic chemistry, hazardous waste management, and environmental engineering design.
Research interests emphasize sustainable solutions for water treatment, such as nanofiltration替代reverse osmosis in potable reuse systems, and developing cost-effective adsorbents for PFAS removal. He leads the Bellona Research Group, which collaborates on pilot-scale projects for industrial and environmental applications.
Recent work explores cyanide recovery from gold mining wastewater and optimizing membrane contactors for resource recovery. His studies address both technical challenges and broader implications for sustainable water management.
