Professor James Macnae is an Honorary Professor in the School of Science at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. He concurrently serves as CEO and Research Director of CD3D Pty Limited, a position held since 1982. His academic work focuses on applied geophysics, electromagnetic methods, and environmental geoscience, with contributions to advancements in airborne and borehole electromagnetic technologies. He is affiliated with UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water) and 9 (Industry Innovation).
Research Interests: Geophysics, electromagnetic sensors, instrumentation development, data processing/interpretation, classical physics, and environmental geoscience. He has supervised projects like “Lightning Source Data Mining for Audio-Frequency Magnetotellurics.”
Publications span 40+ years, emphasizing innovations in airborne EM systems, induced polarization effects, and superparamagnetic analysis. His work integrates theoretical advancements with practical applications in mineral exploration and environmental monitoring.
