James Lauroesch is Associate Professor of Physics at University of Louisville, specializing in astrophysics and interstellar medium research. His education includes a Ph.D. in Astronomy & Astrophysics from University of Chicago (1995), M.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics from University of Chicago (1988), and dual B.A./B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Physics & Astronomy from University of Rochester (1986).
Research focuses on:
- Elemental abundances in Milky Way and extragalactic systems
- Physical conditions in Magellanic Clouds
- QSO absorption line systems
- Structure of interstellar gas within 100pc of Sun
- Star-forming regions and planetary system formation
Recent publication trends show strong focus on spectroscopic analysis of interstellar and intergalactic medium, with particular emphasis on:
- Chemical evolution traced through quasar absorbers
- Time-variable interstellar absorption features
- Structure of protoplanetary disks
- Galaxy chemical evolution patterns
