Dr. James Kim is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo and an Assistant Professor at Lakehead University. He holds a SSHRC Insight Development Grant at the University of Waterloo and focuses on relationship science, sexuality, and gender-based violence. His interdisciplinary research employs quantitative methods to explore romantic/sexual needs, perceptions, and behaviors. He earned a PhD and MA from the University of Toronto and a BSc from Queen’s University.
Research Interests: Dr. Kim investigates modern misogynistic ideologies, sexual well-being, and relationship dynamics. His work bridges social psychology and sexuality studies, emphasizing healthier environments for intimacy. Recent studies include biased love perceptions, sexual rejection dynamics, and self-esteem’s role in sexual health.
Grants & Awards: He has received the UW Provost Postdoctoral Fellowship, UCLA Relationship Science Grant, SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, and Ontario Graduate Scholarship.
Advising & Grants: His grants fund explorations into gender-based violence and relationship perceptions. He contributes to scale development (e.g., Sexual Rejection Scale) and collaborates on meta-analytic reviews of sexual health correlates.
