James Jackson is a Hallsworth Research Fellow at the University of Manchester's Sustainable Consumption Institute (SCI) and Politics Department. He specializes in the political economy of climate transitions, green monetary policy, and climate-related financial risks. His research focuses on the UK, Nordic countries, Australia, Canada, and Germany, with particular emphasis on electric vehicle (EV) transitions and central bank roles in net-zero objectives.
He holds visiting fellow positions at the University of Melbourne (2024–present), University of Bergen (up to 2022), University of Toronto (up to 2023), and University of Ottawa (2025). Jackson completed his PhD at the University of Sheffield's Sheffield Political Economy Research Institute (SPERI), analyzing Germany and the UK's EV transitions.
His work bridges political economy and environmental policy, addressing topics like central bank independence under climate pressures, green financial planning, and the environmental impacts of sports. Recent publications emphasize multi-level climate governance, fossilflation dynamics, and the interplay between financial systems and climate goals.
Notable awards include the ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2023) and Hallsworth Research Fellowship (2024). Jackson is also an assistant editor for Policy & Politics and International Studies Quarterly, and has contributed to media discussions on EV adoption rates and green finance opportunities.
