James H. Cox is the Jane and Roland Blumberg Centennial Professor of English and a Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He serves as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Graduate Student Services within the College of Liberal Arts.

- Ethnic US literatures
- Literature of immigration
- American literature since 1920
- Indigenous American literary history
- Modernism
Recent Publications: Focus on Indigenous North American writers, transnational connections (e.g., Indigenous Mexico), and intersections of literature with cultural/political histories. His 2012 monograph and 2014 co-edited Oxford Handbook established foundational contributions, followed by 2019's political analysis and 2024's focus on Indigenous plays.
Scientific Awards:
- MLA Prize for Studies in Native American Literatures, Languages, and Cultures (2014-2015)
- President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award
- Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award (2009)
- Inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Teachers (2017)
Grants & Editorial Roles: Received funding from the Sequoyah National Research Center and the Historical Society of New Mexico. Served as co-editor of Texas Studies in Literature and Language (2016-2022) and Studies in American Indian Literatures (2007-2012). Also contributed to the editorial board of MELUS (2003-2016).
