Dr. James Grunwald is a Professor at Martin Luther College (MLC), where he specializes in educational technology and online learning. He teaches courses such as Enhancing the Curriculum with Technology, Teaching Online, and Designing and Constructing Online Courses within MLC's master’s program. Additionally, he supports faculty in developing and maintaining online courses, providing technical assistance and training.
His professional roles include Director of Academic Computing at MLC since 1998 and WELS Director of Distance Learning since 2002 (on a half-time sabbatical). He coordinates distance learning initiatives, trains instructors, and contributes to committees like the WELS Technology Advisory Committee and the National Council for Private School Accreditation’s IT and Distance Learning Commission.
Dr. Grunwald’s educational background includes a B.S. in Elementary Education (DMLC, 1978), M.A. in Mathematics Education (UW-Oshkosh, 1983), M.A. in Computers in Education (Clarke College, 1990), and a Ph.D. in Computing Technology in Education (Nova Southeastern University, 1999). He is actively involved in Lutheran educational technology through the ALHSO pilot project and serves on multiple advisory boards.
Outside academia, he enjoys home remodeling, gardening, hiking, canoeing, and disc golf. He is married to Karen, and they have four children, all pursuing diverse careers.
